Axiom Side x Side:  The Can-Am Maverick R An Off-Roading Showdown

by Axiom Admin / Monday, 23 October 2023 / Published in Industry News

As reported by Road and Track in their article “The Can-Am Maverick R Might Make You Ditch Your 4×4,” the world of off-roading is witnessing a revolution, with side-by-sides emerging as superior tools for the job compared to traditional pickups or large SUVs. Can-Am, known for pushing the boundaries, has introduced the Maverick R, a turbocharged off-road beast with a whopping 240 horsepower, featuring a dual-clutch transmission.

Can-Am’s Maverick R boasts a new chassis constructed from dual-phase tubular steel, designed for speed and agility. The Maverick R’s track width of 77 inches ensures it remains legal on most trails and certain roadways, while the 108-inch wheelbase promises stability even at high speeds.

But it’s not just the Maverick R’s chassis that’s turning heads. A powerful powertrain, featuring a new turbocharged 3-cylinder engine from Rotax. This 999cc four-stroke engine with a closed deck aluminum block delivers 240 horsepower, making it the most powerful production side-by-side in the market.

Where the Maverick R introduces a dual-clutch gearbox. Their response to the Maverick R includes a side-by-side market first: Rotax’s dual-clutch gearbox with a seven-speed transmission featuring both high- and low-range gears, all adjustable on the fly. With paddles conveniently mounted on the column, you can shift with ease, ensuring an exhilarating off-road experience.
